BUILDING THE
PROMISE
A VISIONARY SOLUTION
This vision is already in motion. A site has been secured at the corner of Depot and Williams Streets through a generous in-kind land donation, and initial designs have been developed in partnership with local architect, John Fuller. This future campus will serve as a centralized hub for emergency housing, case management, and community connection, bringing everything families need under one roof.
A STRATEGIC INVESTMENT IN BOTH PLACE AND PROGRAM
PLACE | $2,400,000
Constructing the Campus
The new Family Promise campus will include two thoughtfully designed spaces to provide what families need most during crisis: privacy, consistency, support, convenience, and a true sense of home.
The Family Center
A private, safe, and stable environment where families can begin again with:
- Four individual family units with private bathrooms and storage
- Shared living, visiting, and play spaces
- A fully equipped kitchen and dining area
- Future plans for an outdoor playground (Phase 2)
THE RESOURCE CENTER
A centralized hub for care, connection, and opportunity through:
- Flexible and accessible programming space for Family Promise and community partners
- Administrative offices to ensure daily interaction, case management, and relationship-building
- Practical workspaces for families moving toward employment and independence
- Laundry facilities and essential shared amenities for overflow needs
- Storage for in-kind furniture and household donations for the families we serve
Together, these spaces eliminate fragmentation, bringing services, support, and community into one place.
PROGRAM | $600,000
Sustaining the Campus
A building creates possibility, but it is the people, the programs, and the daily work inside that truly transform lives. That’s why our campaign includes essential investments that ensure the campus opens with sufficient capacity to serve all families with excellence from day one. It’s the difference between a house and a home.
Furniture & Equipment
A private, safe, and stable environment where families can begin again with:
- Furnishings for bedrooms and family living spaces
- Basic household amenities and décor that create dignity and comfort
- Office furniture, technology, and equipment
Sustaining Impact From the Start
The campaign also includes one full year of operating support, ensuring the program launches strong and families receive the level of care they deserve. Operating support in year one allows us to expand staffing, programs, and service delivery to meet the demand, so we can focus on families over fundraising.
Preparing for the Future
In addition, reserve funding will support future development of transitional housing on-site, extending the continuum of care and deepening long-term impact. Reserves also allow us a small cushion in case of unexpected events, evolving community needs, and emergencies.

WHY NOW?
THE IMPACT FOR DAVIE COUNTY
Through our Building the Promise Campaign, Davie County will, for the first time, have a permanent, purpose-built solution to support families with children experiencing housing insecurity. That’s something we can all be proud of. Moreover, communities that come together to address issues of homelessness and housing insecurity see great returns.
Decreases reliance and cost on crisis responders.
Increases tax revenues resulting from stronger workforces.
Improves stability in downtowns and neighborhoods.
Decreases demand for public and economic assistance.
THE IMPACT FOR FAMILIES
The expected impact of this capital campaign includes reduced family housing insecurity, increased housing stability, and improved outcomes for children in a rural community with limited housing and support resources. Unhoused families will rebound more quickly, avoid repeat stays, and experience greater stability in employment, education, and overall well-being.
Building the Promise will allow Family Promise to work toward the following measurable objectives:
100%
of families enrolled will have an individualized Family Care Plan that identifies housing goals, barriers, and action steps.
85%
of families participating in the shelter program will successfully graduate and secure independent, permanent housing.
95%
of program graduates will maintain stable housing for at least one year after exit.
70+
episodes of homelessness prevented annually.
THE IMPACT FOR THE McCONNELL FAMILY
In January 2026, North Carolina was hit with one of its harshest storms in years. As roads became impassable, Curtis and Leslie McConnell and their two young sons were in dire crisis.
After a year of housing instability, they had recently moved in with the boys’ godmother. But because she lived in senior housing, the family was forced to leave immediately. With no car, savings, or local support, the McConnells were facing an unimaginable reality: homelessness.
On January 28, Family Promise received an urgent call from the lead Davie County school social worker confirming that the McConnells would lose their housing on February 1. Emergency school funds secured a temporary hotel room while we worked with school social workers to provide food, clothing, and basic needs until the family could arrive to us safely.
Like so many families who experience homelessness, the McConnells had faced multiple barriers compounding all at once. Curtis struggled with serious health issues impacting their income and ability to afford childcare. And neither parent had a high-school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, transportation, or local familial support.
The McConnells officially entered our program on February 2, and an immediate plan was put into place to help them rebuild. Within one week, Leslie landed a job, Curtis began therapy and applied for disability benefits, and the family established medical care, created a financial plan, and connected with childcare resources.
On May 1, the McConnells moved into their own apartment, and the boys can now be kids again!

WHY FAMILY PROMISE OF DAVIE COUNTY
At Family Promise, we provide a full continuum of care all in one place. Our campus is more than a safe place to stay. It’s the foundation for a proven and comprehensive model that supports families at every stage of their journeys.
Homelessness Prevention: a proactive solution including case management and one-time financial assistance to keep families in their current home.
Case Management: a trauma-informed, client-centered solution that supports families seeking shelter to either restore housing or identify a safe place to avoid entering a shelter.
Emergency Family Center/Transitional Housing: a temporary, safe shelter space for families with children experiencing homelessness and access to case management that addresses challenges, moving families toward long-term independence.
Graduate Support Services: a supportive service to connect families with further resources after graduating from our programs.
Together, these programs create a continuum of care that doesn’t just respond to crisis—but prevents it, shortens it, and ensures it doesn’t happen again.
