THE HIDDEN REALITY

Davie County is a place people are proud to call home—a community rooted in care, tradition, and shared responsibility. But many families with children are facing a growing housing crisis hidden in plain sight.

These are working families—teachers, childcare providers, and service workers—many just one unexpected expense away from losing their homes.

In rural communities like Davie County, limited shelter options, transportation barriers, and scarce affordable housing options make stability even harder to achieve. Many families cycle through motels, overcrowded housing, or temporary living arrangements—including living out of their cars—for over a year before securing permanency.

You may not always see this crisis, but it is real—and it’s shaping the future of families and our community.

A CRITICAL NEED

Today, thousands of families in Davie County are living on the edge of financial instability:

3,236

households are cost-burdened by housing.

42%

of renters struggle to afford monthly rent payments.

155

local families faced eviction filings in a single year.

120

Davie County students are facing housing instability.

The consequences to children experiencing housing instability are often dire and enduring. The myriad of repercussions include but are not limited to feelings of shame, a lack of belonging and identity, impacts to health, disruptions to education, and long-term trauma. No child deserves to be at the receiving end of family homelessness.

BUILDING THE PROMISE TOGETHER

For nearly a decade, Family Promise has operated without a permanent home of its own—just like the families it serves.

WITHOUT A PERMANENT CAMPUS:

Families still face instability during the most critical time in their lives

The program cannot operate at full capacity or efficiency

Services remain fragmented and harder to access

Families experience isolation rather than connection

Building the Promise is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform how Davie County supports families experiencing housing insecurity.

Family Promise is raising $3 million to establish a permanent campus that provides stability, dignity, and a clear path forward for more families with children in need.

CHAMPIONING THE CAUSE

“IF YOU WANT TO GO FAST, GO ALONE. IF YOU WANT TO GO FAR, GO TOGETHER.”

This well-known African Proverb embodies the very heartbeat of all we do at Family Promise.

Simply put, we choose to go together!

And we couldn’t do it without an incredible group of community leaders and supporters whose generosity and commitment make Davie County great. Thank you! Together, we are Building the Promise, and we want you to join us!

A PROVEN TRACK RECORD

SAFETY, STABILITY, & LONG-TERM SUPPORT

Family Promise of Davie County is currently the primary housing solution in the county focused on serving families with children experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Since 2017, Family Promise has helped families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response focused on safety, stability, and long-term support.

With the community’s support, we have:

Served more than 2,000 individuals

Prevented or addressed homelessness for more than 730 families

Achieved a 90% housing stability rate one year later

Family Promise is a proven solution, but the growing need has outpaced the current model.
