CAMPAIGN PURPOSE AND IDENTITY
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CAMPAIGN?
The Building the Promise Capital Campaign is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform how Davie County supports families experiencing housing insecurity. Family Promise is raising $3 million to establish a permanent campus—one that provides stability, dignity, and a clear path forward for families with children. This future campus will serve as a centralized hub for emergency housing, case management and related services, and community connection, bringing everything families need under one roof.
WHY DO WE NEED A PERMANENT FACILITY?
For years, Family Promise operated through a rotational model made possible by the generosity of local faith partners. Families moved from church to church weekly, carrying their belongings and their uncertainty with them. While this model allowed the program to exist, it also meant constant disruption for families already in crisis. In 2020, the global pandemic forced us to pivot quickly to a temporary fixed location. When that temporary space was no longer available, Family Promise adapted once again to a new location, reconfiguring offices and program space just to ensure families had somewhere to stay.
Through every challenge, Family Promise has continued to show up, and the impact has been remarkable. But these makeshift solutions are not sustainable. Today, Family Promise is operating without a true home of its own—just like the families it serves. Without a permanent campus, families still face instability during the most critical time in their lives, the program cannot operate at full capacity or efficiency, services remain fragmented and harder to access, families experience isolation rather than connection. Essentially, without a permanent home for Family Promise of Davie County, families lack what they need most: a consistent, safe, and fully equipped environment where they can begin again.
WHAT IS THE LOCATION OF THE NEW BUILDING AND WHY?
A site has been secured at the corner of Depot and Williams Streets through a generous in-kind land donation, and initial designs have been developed in partnership with local architect, John Fuller. The site is conveniently located just a few blocks from downtown Mocksville. Benefits of this site include, but are not limited to: easy access to public transportation (not easily accessible at our current location); a short walk to services, job opportunities, year-round town events, and shops in downtown Mocksville—allowing for greater opportunity to be an active part of the Mocksville community.
WHAT IS THE TIMING OF THIS PROJECT?
Construction on our Building the Promise project is expected to start in the fall of 2026 and conclude in the winter of 2027.
FUNDRAISING NEEDS
WHAT WILL $3 MILLION DO?
$3 million will provide Family Promise of Davie County with a permanent campus consisting of two thoughtfully designed spaces—The Family Center and the Resource Center—that offer families in crisis privacy, consistency, support, convenience, care, connection, opportunity, and a true sense of home when they need it most.
The two buildings will consist of four individual family units with private bathrooms and storage; shared living, visiting, and play spaces; a fully equipped kitchen and dining area; flexible and accessible programming space for both Family Promise of Davie County and community partners; administrative offices to ensure daily interaction, case management, and relationship-building; practical workspaces for families moving toward employment and independence; laundry facilities and essential shared amenities for overflow needs; and finally storage for in-kind furniture and household donations for the families we serve.
Finally, the campaign also includes fundraising for expanded operations, including staffing needs and program expenses, and is inclusive of professional services and contingencies necessary for a building campaign.
HOW WILL THE NEW BUILDING AFFECT THE CURRENT OPERATING BUDGET?
With a larger building, we do anticipate operating costs to increase (for things like utilities, maintenance, and security), which is why we’ve included a minimum of one year’s worth of operating costs in our $3 million capital campaign goal. While we do not expect a need to hire additional staff members right away, we will adjust our workforce as needed once we determine how to best serve enrolled families in our new space. Possible staff expansion could include an additional case manager at some point.
HOW IS THIS CAMPAIGN DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AT FPDC?
Annual fundraising for operations supports our holistic residential model, including our homelessness-prevention services before families reach crisis, our shelter and case management services when families become homeless, and our stabilization services once they have secured housing, to ensure they remain independent. Family Promise of Davie County has provided these services at no cost to more than 2,000 individuals since 2017.
As a result of the Building the Promise capital campaign, Family Promise of Davie County is securing a permanent home for itself while increasing its capacity to 4 total units for families with children facing homelessness. This incredible community-led accomplishment will mean that even more families with children in Davie County will have a place to call their own. A home. A promise fulfilled.

Our mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.
WHO DOES FAMILY PROMISE OF DAVIE COUNTY SERVE?
We serve families experiencing homelessness in Davie County, where a “family” is defined as at least one child and one adult held together by bonds of love and commitment, and where the adult(s) have the responsibility for the care and nurturing of the child(ren). Local Davie County families take priority always. However, if resources are available, we will consider serving a family from one of our surrounding counties on a case-by-case basis.
HOW DOES FAMILY PROMISE OF DAVIE COUNTY MEASURE OUTCOMES?
Our most important outcome measurement is the percentage of families who remain housed at least 12 months after they’ve completed our program. Each calendar year, we also measure the number of families served, the number of children served, and how many nights of shelter were provided. Since 2017, we have served more than 700 families and more than 1,200 children.
HOW IS FAMILY PROMISE OF DAVIE COUNTY FUNDED?
Family Promise of Davie County is funded through several revenue streams, including private donations from individuals (39%), local businesses (16%), and congregations (7%); awarded grants from local and regional Foundations (37%); and our transitional housing fee-for-service sliding-scale model (1%).
